Miroslav Simko
Sales Representative
Miro Simko is a Business Broker for Sunbelt Canada.
Miro is experienced in servicing business owners in wealth creation and finding investment opportunities. He entered investment banking on Wall Street in New York City. From the get-go he was identifying bolt-on acquisitions, and created full scale merger and acquisition (M&A) models, and pitchbooks. Similarly to business brokerage, Miro also built full scale leveraged buyout (LBO) models and pitchbook proposals to private equity firms. Back in Canada, Miro created an exempt-market dealer with a partner and registered Collins Barrow SNT Corporate Finance Inc for Baker Tilly International where he provided independent private business valuations for commercial, litigation disputes, and private shareholders. After transitioning into private wealth management for five years, Miro was overseeing a portfolio of >$500 million, finding investment opportunities in the capital markets doing full scale bottom-up stock valuations on publicly-traded companies.
Growing up in a family-operated business, Miro is driven by helping owners and buyers create value and wealth. Although achieving outstanding returns for investors in the public markets, Miro realized the best approach of wealth creation for buyers is by the process of becoming entrepreneurs through acquisition in privately held businesses. Miro takes pride in supporting buyers, as well as growing the buyer pool and ultimately increasing the number of offers for the selling owner. He enjoys outdoor activities with his wife and daughter.
Miro's education includes a business baccalaureate from the University of Guelph during which he did an apprenticeship role as a Financial Controller in Training for Celebrity Cruises, a Royal Caribbean International company. Miro is a 2022 CFA level 3 candidate in the CFA program. The CFA program is regarded as the gold standard and highest distinction in the investment management profession. In New York, he learned M&A and LBO finance training at the New York School of Investment Banking. He is a current member of the International Business Brokers Association, registered for the Certified Business Intermediary (CBI) designation, and a Real Estate Agent registrant in the Real Estate Council of Ontario. Wealth management designations from the Canadian Securities Institute include the CSC, CPH, and WME. He was also registered as an exempt market dealer representative from the Ontario Securities Commission. Specialized courses include Advanced Valuation in Private Equity from the Erasmus School of Economics in the Netherlands, PE and VC from Università Bocconi in Italy, Meeting Investors’ Goals from Université de Genève in Switzerland, and financial modelling courses from Breaking Into Wall Street.
